Rest In Peace James Horner

My heart was broken today when I heard the news of James Horner's passing.

Perhaps more than any other composer, James Horner embodied my childhood experience and is the reason I pursued composing and film music. His music inspired adventures, odysseys through time and space, some of my earliest memories of love and lost, and an optimism for life that was a solace and comfort for me as it was for countless others. His craft and unforgettable melodies transcend the stories they were written for and embodied life journeys for so many of us. Today we lost not just a great composer, but a commanding musical storyteller of our generation. Thank you for sharing your genius with us and for inspiring us all. Your music and legacy will live on in all of our hearts.

.....

As a child, my first love was art. I had been a part of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" at age 5 (I played the Prince) but it was at around 7-8 that my mother encouraged me to take up the piano. I finally agreed to lessons with the understanding that I would be able to pick my own pieces of music to learn. The first piece I ever learnt (and memorized) was Horner's "My Heart Will Go On", followed shortly by "If We Hold On Together" from "The Land Before Time" which I had so loved when I was younger. Without his music, I doubt I would have taken up music at all and I would not be where I am today. Thank you for everything you've created and embodied in your life and work.
